Stationary Ultrasound Therapy - StatUS-Therapy™

The StatUS™ ultrasound treatment is the latest development in therapy and treatment comfort. StatUS™ stands for Stationary Ultra Sound. In other words: ultrasound applied without moving the treatment head (= stationary). StatUS™-Therapy, developed by Enraf- Nonius in collaboration with international institutes, is an innovative way of applying ultrasound – in a stationary (static) way. A unique treatment method that transforms the disadvantages of static ultrasound applications into advantages for both the therapist and the patient.
Handsfree ultrasound therapy can be performed with the

Combination Ultrasound-Electrotherapy
The Enraf-Nonius equipment for combination of ultrasound- and electrotherapy combines the best of both worlds. Complete units that offer all the benefits of an ultrasound therapy unit and an electrotherapy unit. Professional units that allow for simultaneous application of electrotherapy and ultrasound therapy. This means that treatment of tissue with ultrasound can be done together with pain reduction by means of electrotherapy. As a result your therapy becomes more effective, it allows you to start your therapy earlier and it makes the whole treatment more comfortable for your patient.
See below for more information on ultrasound therapy and electrotherapy.

Ultrasound Therapy
Therapeutic ultrasound is a form of deep heat therapy created by sound waves. When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves are a form of micro-massage that helps reduce swelling, increases blood flow, and decreases pain, stiffness and spasms.
Therapeutic ultrasound in physical therapy is alternating compression and rarefaction of sound waves with a frequency of >20,000 cycles/second. Therapeutic ultrasound frequency used is (note well!) 1 to 3.3 MHz. Maximum energy absorption in soft tissue is 2 to 5 cm. Intensity decreases as the waves penetrate deeper. They are absorbed primarily by connective tissue: ligaments, tendons, and fascia (and also by scar tissue). Ultrasound may have two types of benefit: Thermal effects and non thermal effects. Thermal effects are due to the absorption of the sound waves. Non thermal effects are from cavitation, microstreaming and acoustic streaming. Cavitational effects result from the vibration of the tissue causing microscopic air bubbles to form, which transmit the vibrations in a way that directly stimulates cell membranes. This physical stimulation appears to enhance the cell-repair effects of the inflammatory response. Therapeutic ultrasound is sometimes recommended for muscle as well as joint pain.

Electrotherapy
Electrotherapy is the use of electrical energy as a medical treatment. In medicine, the term electrotherapy can apply to a variety of treatments, including the use of electrical devices such as deep brain stimulators for neurological diseases. The term has also been applied specifically to the use of electric current to speed wound healing. Additionally, the term "electrotherapy" or "electromagnetic therapy" has also been applied to a range of alternative medical devices and treatments.

Electrotherapy - TENS

TENS is a method of electrical stimulation which primarily aims to provide a degree of symptomatic pain relief by exciting sensory nerves and thereby stimulating either the pain gate mechanism and/or the opioid system. The different methods of applying TENS relate to these different physiological mechanisms.

Biofeedback Therapy
Biofeedback is the process of becoming aware of various physiological functions using instruments that provide information on the activity of those same systems, with a goal of being able to manipulate them at will. Processes that can be controlled include brainwaves, muscle tone, skin conductance, heart rate and pain perception. Biofeedback may be used to improve health or performance, and the physiological changes often occur in conjunction with changes to thoughts, emotions, and behavior. Eventually, these changes can be maintained without the use of extra equipment.

Laser Therapy
The term laser is an acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation." The laser light beam is generated from radiation sources so small and safe that it poses no health risks to the patient or medical team. The laser is used for many medical purposes. Because the laser beam is so small and precise, it enables therapists to safely treat tissue without injuring the surrounding area.
Presso Therapy
Presso therapy, or lymph drainage, means stimulating the lymph knobs and the lymph circulation system through a very specific subtle massage, which results in the discharge of moisture and hence the waste products that are located in and between the cells, are removed. With the EndoPress 442 it is possible to apply various lymph drainage techniques.
Traction Therapy
The goal of traction is to reduce pain to assist the patient to become more functional. Therapy should be relaxing - not cause additional or new pain. Therefore, the initial session of therapeutic traction typically uses less force or weight during distraction (pull away). The therapist carefully follows cues from the patient relative to their tolerance level, which includes bodily positioning.
Shortwave and Microwave Therapy
Shortwave and microwave therapy uses high-frequency electric currents to produce heat in body tissues. Physical therapists and sports physicians use diathermy to treat arthritis, bursitis and fractures.

Thermo Therapy
Thermo therapy, also called heat therapy, is the application of heat to the body for pain relief and health. It can be beneficial to those with arthritis and stiff muscles and injuries to the deep tissue of the skin.
Thermo therapy is most commonly used for rehabilitation purposes. The therapeutic effects of heat include increasing the extensibility of collagen tissues; decreasing joint stiffness; reducing pain; relieving muscle spasms; reducing inflammation, oedema, and aids in the post acute phase of healing; and increasing blood flow. The increased blood flow to the affected area provides proteins, nutrients, and oxygen for better healing.
